Brian Nelson Owner/Head Instructor
Brian is the owner of Nelson Baseball School located in Acworth, GA. He has spent the last three seasons in
minor league baseball, a current hitting coach for the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League. He also spent 2008
as a field manager and the 2007 season as a minor league hitting instructor with the Northern League Champion Gary Railcats.
Brian, was selected as a bench coach for the 2009 Northern League All-Star game. He also spent seven years
as a head collegiate baseball coach, three at Rockford College and four at the University Wisconsin-Stevens
Point. Nelson's teams have appeared
in two NCAA tournaments and have had three all-american athletes. They have also had two conference pitchers of the
year, and had a NCAA team homerun leader. He also had a individual NCAA homerun leader and had ten players sign professional
baseball contracts.
Nelson ranks second on UW-Stevens Point’s all-time coaching victories list
and is tied for 12th on the WIAC wins list. He was also named WIAC “Coach of the Year” in 2002. He had
winning seasons in each of his four campaigns and received three national rankings (13th in 2002, 23rd in 2001 and 28th in
2000). The Pointers compiled records of 28-11 in 2000, 30-14 in 2001, 37-10 in 2002 (a school-record for wins) and 26-14-1
in 2003.
Nelson also graduated from UW-Stevens Point (earning his B.S. in sociology in 1999 and M.S. in
education in 2003). He was a four-year starter (1995-98) in centerfield for the Pointers and ranks seventh in school
history with 157 career hits and 115 runs scored. He ranks second all-time with 38 doubles, including a school-record 24 doubles
as a senior that led Division III and still ranks 11th on the all-time Division III single-season list. He led the Pointers
to the NCAA III World Series in 1997. After finishing his four-year career at UWSP, Nelson was an assistant coach
at his alma mater (while completing his undergraduate degree work) in 1999. In the summer of 1999, he played minor league
baseball for the Ozark Mountain Ducks of the Texas-Louisiana League.
He brings this background to help guide the progression
of becoming a better baseball player at all levels.
